The sentence
- Sentence:- A group of words put together in a certain order giving complete sense is called a sentence.
e.g. Ram is a good boy.
He is going to Patna. etc.
- A sentence has two parts --- subject and predicate
- Subject:- Subject is that part of sentence (person or thing) that does something or about which something is told in the sentence. e.g. Ram is a good boy.
Here, in the above sentence, Ram is subject. As about Ram somthing is said in the sentence.
- Predicate:- In a sentence anything expressed about the subject is called predicate. e.g. Ram is a good boy.
Here, in the above sentence, 'is a good boy' is predicate.
Types of Sentences
There are five types of sentences. They are
- Assertive Sentence
- Interrogative Sentence
- Imperative Sentence
- Optative Sentence
- Exclamatory Sentence
