Degrees of Comparision

  • Adjectives and adverbs have degrees of comparision.
  • Adjectives and adverbs change its form to show different degrees of comparision.
  • There are three degrees of comparision. They are,

  1. Positive Degree
  2. Comperative Degree
  3. Superlative Degree

 (1) Positive Degree:- When an adjective or adverb is used in its simple form it is said to be in the positive form.

e.g. 

Ram is a brave boy.

Sita is a beautiful girl.

I have a green car.

Sita had a big box.

(2) Comperative deree:- When an adjective or adverb is used to compare the qualities of two persons or thing together, it is said to be in the comperative degree.

e.g.

My pen is smaller than yours.

This book is thicker than that.

(3) Superlative Degree:- When an adjective or adverb is used to compare the qualities of more than three persons or thing together, it is said to be in the superlative degree.

e.g.

Raj is the best boy of of my class.

Coastal Redwood is the tallest tree in the world.

He was the strongest man in his locality.

Rajsthan has the largest area in indian states. etc.

Parts of speech :-                                           All the English words are divided into eight groups according to the work they do in the sentence, each group is called parts of speech. They are....... Noun Pronoun adjective Verb Adverb Preposition Conjunction Interjection Thus there are eight types of parts of speech. We can only determine the words by seeing it in the sentence that from which category the word belongs to. Because the same word may be belonging to the different parts of speech in the different sentence.
