Gender

  • Gender:-

                         Gender is that which shows whether the noun or the pronoun is masculine, feminine or other.

  • There are four types of gender in English. They are,

  1. Masculine Gender
  2. Feminine Gender
  3. Common Gender
  4. Neuter Gender
(i) Masculine Gender:- The masculine gender denotes a male.

e.g. Ram, dog, father, bull, actor, hero, etc.

(ii) Feminine Gender:- The feminine gender denotes a female.

e.g. mother, Sita, cow, actress, woman, etc.

(iii) Common Gender:- The common gender denotes that the noun is either a male or a female.

e.g. teacher, student, person, sheep, fox, author, clerk, child, doctor, parent, cousine, infant, relative, servent, elephant, singer, writer, baby, driver, typist, fool, professor, speaker, novelist, guest, enemy, artist, etc.

(iv) Neuter Gender:- The neuter gender denotes that the noun is neither a male nor a female. 

e.g. wool, crow, ant, pen, computer, fan, book, honesty, army, clock, etc.

Note: Non-living things, insects and small animals are neuter gender in English. Collective nouns, material nouns and abstract nouns are also neuter gender.

Parts of speech :-                                           All the English words are divided into eight groups according to the work they do in the sentence, each group is called parts of speech. They are....... Noun Pronoun adjective Verb Adverb Preposition Conjunction Interjection Thus there are eight types of parts of speech. We can only determine the words by seeing it in the sentence that from which category the word belongs to. Because the same word may be belonging to the different parts of speech in the different sentence.
